Legume Innovation Lab

The Grain Legumes Innovation Lab is developing improved grain legume varieties that are resistant to climatic stresses, as well as disease and insect threats. The Lab also enhances and promotes improved soil and pest management practices to maximize yield potential of grain legumes. The combined focus aims to boost the nutritional and health status of women and young children by improving access to quality grain legumes.

We aim to help strengthen grain legume value chains and enhance the capacity and sustainability of agriculture research institutions on grain legume sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. With the International Year of Pulses, the gaps between research and implementation will become even more critical to the success of lowering global poverty and hunger, and I am proud to work with USAID to lead the change.
