Now accepting nominations: IDB Prize recognizing women's contribution to food security

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is currently accepting nominations for the 9th Edition of the IDB Prize for Women’s Contribution to DevelopmentThe Prize aims to RECOGNIZE, ENCOURAGE, INSPIRE and REWARD women’s participation in the socio-economic development process.

IDB Prize for Women's Contribution to Development

Women play a key role in achieving food security. They produce between 60% and 80% of food in most developing countries and almost half of the world’s foodstuffs. They are the major household food providers and ensure dietary diversity. Consequently, women’s crucial contribution to food production and provision can be enhanced by boosting their access to productive resources and services such as land, training, technologies, information and financial services. It is therefore in recognition of their role that the IDB is dedicating the 9th Edition of the Prize to “Women’s Contribution to Food Security.”

The Prize consists of a cash award of US$ 50,000 for an individual woman and a cash award of US$ 100,000 for a non-governmental organization.

The deadline for nominations is September 30, 2013 .
