Join us for a discussion of the OECD’s latest data, analysis, and projections for the United States, and an overview of the global context.

For over 30 years, the OECD has provided annual reviews of internationally comparable agriculture policy and market developments. Our data and recommendations aim to help countries build a productive, sustainable, and resilient global food system – one capable of feeding a growing human population while protecting natural resources and enabling sustainable livelihoods for farm households. The event will feature a live video presentation of the latest Agricultural Policy Monitoring and Evaluation 2019 and the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2019-2028, and will be followed by a live panel conversation and audience Q&A.

Agricultural Policy Monitoring and Evaluation 2019

This report Agricultural Policy Monitoring and Evaluation 2019 is the 32nd in the series of OECD reports that monitor and evaluate agricultural policies across countries, and the seventh report to include both OECD countries and a set of emerging and developing economies. The present report includes countries from all six continents, including the 36 OECD countries and the five non-OECD EU Member States, as well as twelve emerging economies: Argentina, Brazil, People’s Republic of China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Ukraine and Vietnam.

Recent progress made by many OECD countries in reducing agricultural producer support and in shifting agricultural policies towards less distorting and sometimes more targeted measures has largely stalled. Moreover, support to producers remains unequal across countries and commodities. On average, more than 18 percent of gross farm receipts in OECD countries continue to originate from policies, compared to 9 percent on average across the emerging and developing countries covered in this report. However, these averages mask much higher dependence of farm revenues on support in some countries and negative support in several emerging economies, notably in Argentina and India.

OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2019-2028

The Agricultural Outlook 2019-2028 is a collaborative effort of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. It brings together the commodity, policy and country expertise of both organisations as well as input from collaborating member countries to provide an annual assessment of the prospects for the coming decade of national, regional and global agricultural commodity markets. This year's Special Feature will focus on agricultural development in Latin America.

Global agriculture has evolved into a highly diverse sector, with operations that range from small subsistence farms to large multinational holdings. Farmers’ products are sold fresh in local markets, but also across the world through sophisticated and modern value chains. Beyond their traditional role of providing humankind with food, farmers are important custodians of the natural environment and have become producers of renewable energy.

In order to meet the high expectations society places on agriculture, public and private decision makers require reliable information on the likely trends of global demand, supply, trade and prices and the factors driving them. To this end, the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook is an annual reference that provides a comprehensive medium-term baseline scenario for agricultural commodity markets at national, regional and global levels.
