Information

Many countries are enacting policies within a climate framework, while also promoting growth and increased productivity. Yet the practice of increasing agricultural output in developing countries may not always be consistent with the goals of increasing climate resilience. Farmers may be more likely to adopt practices that are more mechanized but lead to increased emissions and do not necessarily improve efficient water use. Effective agricultural practices may result in migration from rural areas, leading to increased pressure in urban areas. However, strengthening an economy can increase the capacity to address climate issues.

This seminar will explore these issues and address the question of whether there is a paradox between improving agriculture production and investing in climate resilience.
