Information

Join FAO North America to observe World Food Day 2020 on the theme “Grow. Nourish. Sustain. Together! Our actions are our Future.”

This year’s World Food Day marks the 75th anniversary of FAO in an exceptional moment as the global community confronts the widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is time we look into the future we need to build together. World Food Day calls for global solidarity to help the most vulnerable populations recover from the crisis, and to make food systems more resilient and robust enough to withstand increasing volatility and climate shocks, deliver affordable and sustainable healthy diets for all, and decent livelihoods for food system workers.

This ceremony will feature the inaugural FAO North America World Food Day Lecture, featuring Homi Kharas, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and a panel discussion on FAO and the road to 2030, featuring Alexandra Bugailiskis, Ambassador of Canada to Italy, Kip Tom, Ambassador of U.S. Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, and Beth Bechdol, Deputy-Director-General, FAO. The event will also announce the winners of the 2020 World Food Day Poetry Contest, present Recipes for Turtle Island, highlight the power of storytelling, and give a voice to food heroes.

Join us to commemorate World Food Day and FAO’s 75th Anniversary, and to hear diverse perspectives on how we can build back better and get back on track towards achieving Zero Hunger and the Sustainable Development Goals.
