Five Years of the SDU: Managing risk through innovation and adaptation
Event Information
To mark five years of AgDevCo's Smallholder Development Unit (SDU), AgDevCo is convening a series of celebratory virtual events. The first event looks at how African agribusinesses manage risk through innovation and adaptation.
African agribusinesses regularly have their resilience tested – through both day-to-day operations as well as dramatic shocks such as pandemics, political change, extreme weather events and shifting global market dynamics. The most resilient businesses are often those most able to innovate and adapt. However, innovation and adaptation can be costly endeavours and bring risk of failure. Technical assistance facilities are well-placed partners to share these costs, de-risk new ideas, and ultimately support the building of better businesses.
During this event, the SDU team and partner businesses will share stories of extending smallholder engagement models over the past five years – when things have worked and when they have not. By sharing these experiences, the event aims to illustrate (i) how failures can translate into unexpected stories of success, and (ii) the important role of technical assistance support in unlocking this potential.
