Did you know that in the East African Community (EAC), a majority of the agricultural workforce is comprised of women? Despite being the majority of a crucial part of the EAC's economy, many women remain disempowered and financially excluded from their economies. Women in the EAC consistently face financial, educational, and legal barriers to becoming economically empowered. 

USAID Economic Analysis and Data Services (EADS) recently produced an Analytical Brief on Barriers to Women's Economic Empowerment in East Africa. This brief assesses the financial, educational, and legal barriers that prevent women in East Africa from fully participating and thriving in their economic spheres. Topics include bank account ownership, mobile money use, access to loans, unpaid care work, school completion rates, unemployment and labor force participation, property rights, gender-based violence, & early marriage.
