Innovations for Livestock Feeds to Help Smallholder Farmers
The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock systems develops innovative solutions to problems with livestock production and animal-source food consumption. Here are four one-page fact sheets about innovations that were developed to support the improvement of feed resources and their utilization. Each innovation is based on active or recently completed research projects we funded in the respective country. They are widely applicable for smallholder farmers and stakeholders across the developing world.
Four Innovation Summaries
- Sorghum Genotypes for Livestock Feeding: This adapted technology highlights two selected crop varieties and best practices, from Ethiopia.
- Analytical Method for Quantifying Mycotoxins in Feeds: These adapted technologies use proven methods for routine testing of animal feeds, from Rwanda.
- Test for Analyzing Mycotoxins in Livestock Feeds: This adapted technology addresses the food safety issue of mycotoxins in animal feed, from Ethiopia.
- Mobile App-Based Feeding Support Tool to Optimize Dairy Animal Productivity: This new technology is a free, Android-based app that calculates the best, affordable diets for dairy cattle and buffaloes, from Nepal.
