Zelalem Lema Moti

Australia PhD Candidate University of New England Armidale

My education background is in Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Economics, and currently, a PhD candidate doing my research on the application of agricultural innovation systems (Innovation Platforms) to sustainable intensification of crop-livestock farming systems. Specifically, analysing the effectiveness of USAID Feed-The-Future supported Africa-RISING Ethiopian Highlands project's multilevel Innovation Platforms in attaining livestock innovation outcomes. I have been working for ILRI in Ethiopia for Africa-RISING, and I was co-leading a project on integrating nutrition in agriculture by providing practical training on preparing nutritious food for children under five. We conducted a survey and shared preliminary findings through policy briefs, and yet we are looking for partners to publish our work. As a social researcher, I am interested in applied research supporting the agricultural innovation system to getting tangible development outcomes on the livelihood of smallholders. I am interested in the application of systems-approach that integrate the skills of diverse stakeholders beyond research to contribute to the innovation process.
