Dr Abe Gerrano
Dr Abe Shegro Gerrano is a plant breeder by training. Dr Gerrano’s area of research interest and responsivities are is in the areas of plant breeding (conventional, molecular breeding and genomic selections), genetics and abiotic stress) in the assessment of genetic diversity in crop and crop wild relatives towards the genetic improvement of crops for especially increased yield, nutritional value as well as breeding for drought tolerance in different environmental conditions towards resilience of climate change in Southern Africa aimed at increasing food, nutritional and health security through breeding for desirable characteristics. He also involved in germplasm collection, conservation, characterization, evaluation, cultivar development, and nutritional quality study as well as dissemination and technology promotion/transfer and seed system research and crop genetic resources management.
