New Zealand Senior lecturer Massey University

I am an indigenous public health scientist from Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ) that aims for equity through community-based health interventions. I work in the School of Health Sciences, Massey University and teach social determinants of health, health intervention management and Māori health (indigenous NZers health). Recently, we have focussed on local food security that has Climate change, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Food and Agriculture Organisation local sustainable food systems initiatives embedded. We aim to reinvent current food system from within a developed country (NZ), that has a high proportion of exports as primary produce, to establish a flagship food system that is environmentally and economically sustainable and adheres to ethical standards of food production. This new system will be co-ordinated from primary producer to consumer and be motivated by values of transparency, fairness and care for the environment. We look forward to speaking to others who are on a similar path or who may have managed to develop such a system.
