Jacob Nyirongo

Malawi Chief Executive Officer Farmers Union of Malawi

Jacob Christopher Nyirongo graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Agronomy in 1999 from Bunda College of Agriculture, a Constituent College of the University of Malawi. He is the Chief Executive Officer for Farmers Union of Malawi. He has experience in Policy Advocacy, Organizational Strategy Development and implementation, leadership and organizational change management, financial management including budget planning and execution, institutional audits, organizational policy compliance monitoring, and human resource management. He chairs the Advisory Board for MwaPATA Institute and is a member in the Boards of Greenbelt Authority, CIC Cooperative Insurance Limited and Centre for Agriculture Transformation. He is also a member of Steering Committees of various Malawi Government Agriculture Development Projects providing policy oversight. He has vast experience working on projects related to agriculture value chains development, development of farmer organizations, access to markets and agriculture policy and regulatory reforms. He has worked on projects funded by USAID, World Bank, DFID, Royal Norwegian Embassy, Irish Aid, and We Effect. He has worked for a number of organizations including International Crops Research in Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), GIZ, International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF), Christian Aid, Norwegian Church Aid, and Oxfam.
