Deirdre Holcroft

France Owner/Consultant Holcroft Postharvest Consulting

Deirdre Holcroft holds a PhD in postharvest physiology from University of California Davis as well MSc and BSc degrees in horticulture from University of KwaZulu Natal. From a farming background in Zimbabwe, she went on to study and work in several countries before settling in France. After 25 years’ experience in both industry (AgroFresh/Dow AgroSciences; Dole Fresh Vegetables, USA), and academia (University of Stellenbosch, and University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa; Michigan State University, USA), Deirdre started Holcroft Postharvest Consulting in 2011. She specializes in the postharvest handling and of fruits, vegetables, fresh-cut produce and flowers with an emphasis on reducing food waste, and improving quality, shelf-life, and profitability. She is passionate about the value of the cold chain. Her advice is based on sound scientific principles tempered by experience.
