Kit Prendergast

Australia Native bee ecologist Dept of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions

Kit Prendergast is a native bee ecologist from Western Australia. Her research has involved identifying the most effective method for monitoring bees; plant-pollinator networks; the impact of introduced flora and the introduced honeybee on native bees; identifying the bee visitors to threatened flora; the biodiversity of native bees in urban native vegetation remnants; bee visitors to apple orchards; effective design and the ecology of bees using bee hotels; and the effect of urbanisation on native bees. Her skills include taxonomy, ecology, and science communication. She is an accomplished early career researcher, and her publications can be found via her ORCiD profile (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1164-6099). In addition to her academic publications, she is also an experienced and well-published writer for the general public, with over 100 publications in various nature, gardening and environmental magazines, websites and blogs. Her flair for science communication and engagement has been recognised in a number of scicomm and public speaking awards, including being a finalist in the Australian FameLab finals 2019, and winner of the People's choice award for the the Researchers for Agriculture in International Development (RAID): Early Career Researcher’s Presentation Competition. Kit is also a keen photographer, and her pollinator photos have won numerous awards.
