Solomon Islands Building & Maintenance Construction Manager Pacific Builders Company Limited

I am a Solomon Islander in southwest Pacific North of Australia. Iam a qualified Building Engineer graduating at the University of Technology Papua New Guinea.

My interest is in Hydroponic Farming which am interested in setting it out in the Solomon Islands. Currently am researching on how to build and run a container farm to grow vegetable crops not easliy grown in solomon islands like brocolli, couliflour, ball cabbage, lettuce and other quick grown vegetables to supply in restaurants and hotels around Honiara which is the capital of Solomon Islands.

Also, one of my vision is to setup Saelea Foundation an organisation setup to feed diabetic and pre-diabetic solomon islanders with low calorie diet meals and seting up the farm is a stepping stone for that. Also, the aim in setting up this foundation comes out after losing most of my family siblings and my parents to Type 2 diabetes. Solomon Islands life expectancy is around 70 years of age statistically low compared to most countries in the world. If everyone can contribute to extend this life expectancy for Solomon Islanders that will be a great idea.

Food security in Solomon Islands is low in world index and by venturing into agriculture is a way forward. Locally grown foods sold in markets around Honiara is way expensive so am looking at how can I do something to help my people with affordable cheap vegetables for consumption at the same time nutritious compared to imported cheap chinese products.

So basically, be a member of Agrilink community, I believe will help me with carrying out research in this sector.

Thankyou indeed, and may God bless

Joseph
