GL is a fully registered Green Enterprise Championing local for-non-profit (NGO) in Malawi. GL's programmatic areas of focus include investing in climate-smart agriculture, agri-business, agro-commercialization, and partnership development for economic growth via the promotion of green entrepreneurship. GL’s vision is a “Nation with sustainable livelihoods". Its mission is to partner with investment-minded progressive but resource-restricted smallholder farmers (SHFs) and youths in co-crafting solutions to challenges of poverty, climate change, and economic activity marginalization. GL works to empower smallholder farmers (SHFs) by focusing on women and youth as agents of change, with appropriate skill-sets and ‘innovation co-creation platforms’ to address development challenges aimed at improving their resilience to the effects of climate change and achieve sustainable livelihoods by improving local entrepreneurial, innovating through climate-smart agricultural practices, fostering natural resource-based product development and actively engaging communities in searching for ecologically adaptive and yet inclusive growth, linkage with established markets, knowledge creation on sustainable agricultural development; environmental conservation.
Current running projects led by GL include a $500,000 USAID-funded Moringa Value Chain Enterprise Development (MOVED) project in Salima. With funding from Flanders Government, GL is co-implementing a €1.810.469.00 project: “Smallholder Farmers (SHFs) in Groundnut and beef value chAIN (GAIN in Kasungu and Mzimba to increase access to markets” targeting 14,000 SHFs for beef (Heifer) and commercialization groundnuts value chain (GL). And with funding from DANIDA via the Civil Society of Fund of Denmark, GL is also implementing a project called Better Livelihoods and Environmental Awareness (BLEA) in Dowa District in Malawi -all with focus to contribute towards improved ‘food and income security’ for the SHFs.
